Match Report: Catalans Dragons - Hull FC
Hull FC moved four points clear in third place in Super League after a dominant display in the South of France.
A brace from Josh Griffin as well as tries from Albert Kelly, Joe Westerman, Andre Savelio, Kieran Buchanan, Ratu Naulago and Jamie Shaul helped the Airlie Birds to a comfortable victory over the fourth placed Dragons!
The Black & Whites welcomed back Sika Manu from a dead leg and Josh Griffin from suspension after both missing last week’s game against Castleford.
Meanwhile Josh Bowden returned after being rested. Mark Minichiello dropped out with a groin strain missing what would have been his 400th career game.
Hull remained without first-team players Gareth Ellis, Jordan Lane, Carlos Tuimavave, Jack Logan, Jack Sanderson and Masi Matongo,
After a strong start it was the Dragons who made their territory count first in fortunate circumstances, Micky McIlorum with a neat grubber close to the Hull line was palmed in the air by Jake Connor into the path of Sam Tomkins who just had to fall on the ball to score.
That score seemed to wake Hull up, who created a couple of half chances down the right before making them tell, Connor more than making up for his error, offloading to Naulago who found Kelly with a drop off for the former Gold Coast man to level the scores for the black & whites.
After Sneyd tagged on a penalty in front of the posts, Hull scored again, Albert Kelly with a jinking run close to the Dragons line wasn’t quite able to score himself, but passed basketball style to Joe Westerman to fall over the line to score. Catalans hit back through Lewis Tierney who was a late inclusion in the Dragons 19, taking David Mead’s pass and cutting inside two Hull would be tacklers to reduce the deficit.

Andre Savelio was the next to add to the scoring, with his first try in Hull colours, collecting the ball after a half-break by Scott Taylor and proving too strong for the Dragons defence.
Perhaps the pick of the bunch came on the stroke of half-time, Josh Griffin making a break after Hull looked to be pinned in their own 10, finding Marc Sneyd with a pass inside who in turn offloaded to Bureta Faraimo. The USA international offloaded back to Griffin who finished his own break under the posts.
HALF-TIME: Catalans Dragons 10 - 32 Hull FC
The opening score of the second half came before the Dragons had touched the ball, Josh Griffin powering through the Catalans defence, drawing the full back and feeding Kieran Buchanan with the youngster strolling over to score his first try in Super League!
The Airlie Birds struck next with a special effort from Ratu Naulago. The Fijian took Sam Tomkins grubber kick in his own in goal, and did well to escape! He found a gap and had the pace to escape David Mead to score!
After Albert Kelly left the field with injury, Jake Connor moved to half back and Griffin back to his more common centre spot the former Salford man doubled his account for the evening, powering through the Catalans defence to score!
The scoring wasn’t done there, as Jamie Shaul burned through the Dragons defence and showed a clean pair of heels to Sam Tomkins to score under the posts, with Marc Sneyd bringing up the 50 with his ninth successful goal of the evening.
