Relive last year’s Challenge Cup final victory by getting your hands on a copy of 2016: The Year of the Airlie Bird from the club’s retail stores this Saturday!
2016: The Year of the Airlie Bird, written by author Pete Allen, charts the memorable campaign where the Airlie Birds wrote a new chapter in their folklore by winning the Cup at Wembley for the first time.
The Black and Whites fought back from 10-0 down in the nation’s capital to defeat Warrington Wolves 12-10, with tries from Mahe Fonua and Jamie Shaul sealing the victory along with Danny Houghton’s try-saving tackle on Ben Currie to deny the Wolves the win.
The book, which includes a foreword by the reigning Man of Steel Houghton, is a personal account of fan Pete Allen from 2016 as the Airlie Birds created history.
The book will be available to buy this Saturday (8th July) from both club retail stores and is priced at £15, with all proceeds from the book going to Danny Houghton’s testimonial.
Author Pete Allen will be signing copies of the book at the Savile Street store from 10am - 12pm on Saturday.
On the book, Pete said: “I didn’t intend writing any more books about Hull FC, but along came 2016 and it was so special to so many people in so many ways.
“I wanted to try and capture for posterity the wonderful aura that surrounded the campaign. In addition I wanted to do something special to honour Danny’s heroics and every penny of profit from every book will go to Danny’s testimonial.”
