Hull FC are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the club’s former Away Supporter Liaison Officer Martin Merrikin.

Martin, alongside his wife Andrea, began the volunteer role in 2001, which involved welcoming and greeting away supporters to the Boulevard, and ensuring they experienced a happy and safe match day experience at the club’s former home, as well as assisting with any problems and supporting disabled fans.

Both Martin and Andrea continued the role when the Black & Whites made the move to the MKM Stadium in 2003.

Many supporters will remember both Martin and Andrea, who would often be seen handing out lollipops to young supporters around the ground.

Sadly in 2006, Martin suffered a serious cycling accident which left him unable to continue in the role, but has always remained connected to the club as a supporter, and through wife Andrea who continued to fulfill the volunteer position for another 17 years.

In 2007, Hull FC’s annual ‘Clubman Award’, which recognises the outstanding efforts of an individual  member of club staff each season, was renamed in honour of Martin’s service to the club.

In 2018, following the club’s Challenge Cup Final victory at Wembley Stadium, Martin was given a surprise visit with the trophy by the club.

After over two decades in the role, Andrea retired from the position at the end of the 2023 campaign.

Martin sadly passed away earlier this week.

The thoughts and condolences of everyone at the club are with Andrea, and Martin’s family and loved ones.
