Centre of Excellence News

The third and final Women’s Hull Derby of the 2022 season comes to the University of Hull on Sunday afternoon as both teams are looking to claim victory in their penultimate game of the 2022 Women’s Championship season.

The Black and White’s season has picked up since these two sides last met, having recently claimed two victories with back to back wins against Dewsbury and Widnes, as well as a hard-fought effort against league leaders Salford.

FC are looking to build on their convincing showing against the Red Devils Women against fifth placed city rivals Hull KR.

Last Time Out:

The Black and Whites last faced Rovers at the end of June in a 4-24 loss at Sewell Group Craven Park.

Despite, the scoreline Hull FC ended the game strong as Bethan Candlin managed to touch down in the final ten minutes of a fierce derby encounter.

Season So Far:

Hull FC have won two of their last three matches having built on promising performances going into the final matches of the 2022 season.

On their loss against Salford, Jack Coates, Hull FC’S Female Pathways Manager, said: “To go down to 14 fit players in the second half […] and continue fighting right until the end was hugely pleasing.”

The Red and Whites have only won one match in their last three as they look to try and build on the win against bottom of the table Widnes Vikings.

This Week’s Game:

On this weekend’s derby, Coates said: “It’s more about performance for us now and showing the right signs leading in to next year.”

This is the Women’s penultimate match as they are fighting to end the 2022 season on a high with their youth on full show.

The FC team are excited for the opportunity that the derby brings as Coates feels “that we have shown a lot of improvement over the season and are building to something really positive.”

One To Watch:

Hull FC’s player to watch is returning captain Ruby Magson, who is a strong ball carrier and a great leader for this youthful and developing team.

The ex-Hull KR player, who was not present for last week’s loss against Salford Red Devils, has shown skill and determination in the successes of FC’s Women’s side.
