The Hull FC Community Foundation’s Energise Club will continue throughout the summer holidays, expanding to multiple venues across the city thanks to funding from Hull City Council.

Part of over 850 hours of the Community Foundation’s Junior Summer Camps during the school holidays, the Energise Club sessions will be heading to Kingston Youth Centre, St Michael’s Youth Project, as well as the Bonus Youth Performance Centre to engage with local children throughout the summer holidays.

Having launched last October, Energise Club provides primary school children with an after-school health and fitness club, with fun games and learning activities to benefit their physical and mental wellbeing.

Since its establishment nine months ago, the Community Foundation has engaged with hundreds of local school children, highlighting the importance of exercises and healthy eating, with clear evidence that their knowledge has improved whilst attending the sessions.

With not all children interested in joining a sports club for one particular sport, the Community Foundation has understood the desire for an after-school club that provides the opportunity to trial a variety of multi-sports and activities, allowing each child to explore which activity they prefer the most.

In addition, classroom-based activities such as cooking classes and quizzes have provided education in a fun and engaging way.

The Energise Club holiday camps will run at the Bonus Youth Performance Centre, St Michaels Youth Project and Kingston Youth Centre every Friday, making the sessions more accessible to children all across the city.

The camps will be structured in the same way that the after-school club is, with a mixture of sports and classroom activities, all focused on educating children on their health and wellbeing. There will be opportunities for children to play a variety of sports and games, as well as getting involved with some arts & crafts, cooking and more. Plus, there will be chance for the kids to meet some of their Hull FC heroes.

Maisie Malton, Head of Health & Wellbeing said: “It has been so rewarding to see how excited the children get to come to a health and fitness session and that is credit to ourselves here at the Community Foundation for creating such an engaging project that yields countless benefits for local kids.

“We have also been encouraging parents to get involved where they can, especially when it comes down to healthy eating and nutrition, as I know how challenging it can be to encourage children to keep on top of their diets.

“I’m looking forward to the holiday camps and seeing lots of kids having fun throughout the summer.”
