Members of the Hull FC Community Foundation’s Energise Club got exclusive behind-the-scenes access at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.

Part of the Community Foundation’s commitment to engage with and inspire local children, Energise Club is an after-school club for children aged between 5-11, designed to improve their health and fitness with fun games and learning activities.

As part of a special experience for the youngsters, they got a behind-the-scenes look at an MKM Stadium matchday on Saturday, touring the stadium and getting to play some fun games on the pitch during the half-time interval.

One participant said: “It was a little bit different to what we normally do at Energise on a Thursday night and it was really fun to go around the stadium and see all the different areas.”

“My favourite part was meeting some of the players who were really kind and stopped to take some pictures and sign some autographs for me. It was really fun going on the pitch as well,” added another youngster.

Energise Club sessions, which run on Thursday evenings at Hull FC’s Centre of Excellence, is split into two segments – an active fitness section and a classroom-based learning activity section.

Some of the fitness activities include playing a variety of sports games such as rugby, football, tennis and rounders, as well as gym style activities, fun circuits, and games that encourage team building and leadership skills.

The classroom-based learning includes educational sessions on food groups, followed by fun activities such as arts & crafts, cooking, card games and using food props.

Speaking about Energise Club, which is a project part of the Teaming Up For Health partnership with the Hull Health & Care Partnership, Hull FC Community Foundation Head of Health & Wellbeing Maisie Malton said: “We rewarded the kids with a trip out to a Hull FC fixture on Saturday and it was fantastic to see so many smiles on their faces.

“We have seen participation numbers increase over the last couple of months and ultimately, it has been about educating the kids on their health and wellbeing in a fun and engaging way, which they have all bought into fully.”
