Brett Hodgson says Hull FC will need to make the most of the opportunities they create in order to beat Wigan Warriors at the MKM Stadium tomorrow.

The Black & Whites were guilty of failing to execute big chances in the 24-10 defeat to St Helens last time out, which was a key frustration of Hodgson’s, despite his side registering a competitive performance against the champions.

“On reflection of the St Helens game, I think it was a case of they took their chances and we didn’t take ours,” Hodgson said.

“Despite losing our way in the second half a little bit, I still don’t feel that we were too far away, given the chances we created, so we just need to maximise the chances we create for ourselves.

“But we’re confident that we’ll be able to put our best foot forwards again against a good Wigan team at our home ground.”

Wigan visit the MKM Stadium tomorrow ahead of their Challenge Cup Final meeting with Huddersfield Giants at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next Saturday.

Last week’s Super League meeting between the two sides was a dress rehearsal of the final, where Wigan rested a couple of their key players in a bid to freshen them up.

Jai Field and Cade Cust, two key pivots for the Warriors, weren’t involved in that game at the John Smith’s Stadium last week, but they have been named in Matt Peet’s squad to play tomorrow, and they are a couple of players that Hodgson is keen to keep quiet.

“Their key individuals such as Jai Field, Bevan French and Cade Cust are all playing well at the moment. They are individuals that can hurt you at any given moment,” Hodgson explained.

“So we need to make sure that we’re honest in our defensive system throughout the match.

“It can’t just be for periods of the game. It needs to be for every single minute of the game, and I think we saw examples of where we didn’t do that in the game at Wigan.

“Jai Field, twice, burnt us. That was purely based on lapses in concentration, perhaps, or somebody not being in the right place in the defensive system that we had practiced, so that’s our big challenge this week.”
