Jake Connor reviews Sunday’s win over Huddersfield.

Jake Connor believes Hull FC’s middles were the key driving force behind yesterday’s 14-6 victory over Huddersfield Giants at the MKM Stadium.

Connor has been Super League’s most creative player in the opening six rounds, despite missing a match.

Two more assists against the Giants helped the fullback take his tally of assists for the season up to 12.

But Connor was quick to put his forward comrades in the spotlight in his post-match interview.

“If the forwards don’t put in the work they have done in the last couple of games then I don’t have the platform to play the way I can, so credit to them once again,” Connor said.

“I think it was one of the toughest games we’ve had so far this year.

“Huddersfield don’t always throw a lot of shape at you, but they’re very good at sticking in games and that’s what they did against us.”

Connor and the Huddersfield fullback Tui Lolohea went into yesterday’s game level on the assists leaderboard, but it was the Hull FC number one who came up smelling of roses after the game.

Connor, though, once again praised the work of the forward pack for their work on restricting Lolohea’s influence on the game.

“He’s their key player so far this season, so we had done a lot of work through the week, looking at how we could limit his involvement in the game,” he said.

“On the ball, he’s been one of the best players in the league this season because he likes to play off-the-cuff.

“Again, our middles did a great job of getting up in his face and stopping him from doing what he’s best at, so they deserve a massive pat on the back for that effort.”
