Connor Wynne has reflected on his efforts against Leigh Centurions on Saturday, expressing his delight at his try-scoring return to the side.

Wynne came into the side to feature at centre in place of the sidelined trio of Josh Griffin, Carlos Tuimavave and Cameron Scott, in the 64-22 victory at the Leigh Sports Village.

Wynne was one of nine try-scorers on a memorable afternoon for the Black & Whites.

“It was great to be back out there with the lads on Saturday – playing centre was a new position for me but I felt very comfortable there having Bureta and Grub on my edge,” he said in his post-match interview.

“Whenever you come into the team, you just have to do your job, whether I’m coming in at full-back, wing or centre. Jake is killing it at full-back and Brett rightly doesn’t want to move him from there, so I’m more than happy tot fill in anywhere and do my job for the team.”

He added: “I was a bit nervous coming into the game having never played at centre at first-grade level, but you get that first touch of the ball and that gets your confidence levels up. I feel like I gave Iain Thornley a good battle to be honest.”

On his elusive footwork seen on several occasions during the game, he said: “That’s my game – I lost it a little bit last season but I’ve gone away in pre-season, worked on it, and I’m happy to implement that back into my game.

“Brett spoke to me before the game about being in the right positions, and that will help me make the right decisions. “

Wynne also hailed his spell on loan at York City Knights as giving him a big confidence boost, adding: “That was massive for me.

“It’s given Brett a big indication of where I’m at, and that he can trust me when he brings me into the squad. It was a big confidence boost for me.”
