Academy Secure First Win Of 2021

The report from the Academy’s 44-18 win over Bradford

Centre of Excellence News

Jude Ferreira scored a hat-trick and Joel Speed grabbed a brace to help the Hull FC Academy onto a 44-8 victory over Bradford Bulls Under 19s at the University of Hull yesterday afternoon.

Backing up from a disappointing return to action against Wakefield last weekend, the Black & Whites’ youngsters responded in comprehensive style to claim their first win of 2021.

Ferreira and Speed shared five tries between them, whilst there were also first tries of the season for Nick Staveley, Leon Stewart and Centre of Excellence Sports College student Davy Litten.

Danny Wilson’s side made the perfect start and they made Bradford pay for their early ill discipline. Ferreira got the early ball he craves so much and powered over from close range.

Staveley doubled FC’s lead ten minutes later, crashing over on the power play.

Hull began to turn the screw on a Bradford side on the ropes, and England Academy back-rower Stewart claimed the host’s third try of the afternoon as he grounded the ball despite the best attentions of several defenders.

The Black & Whites held all the aces when Litten rode one challenge close to the line, using the momentum to carry him over the whitewash.

But the Bulls scored on either side of the interval to get themselves back into the contest. Lewis Adams scored on the back of a well executed shift play, before halfback Myles Lawford jinked through the defensive line from close range.

But that was about as good as it got for the visitors on their trip to East Yorkshire. It took a matter of minutes for Hull to find their flow again and Ferreira bulldozed his way over from close range to make it 26-8 after Marcus Walker’s conversion.

Winger Joel Speed grabbed a quickfire double around the hour mark – first taking advantage of open space in the left corner before picking up the pieces from a high Worthington kick that Bradford failed to deal with for his second.

The cherry was put on top of the cake for Hull when Ferreira once again recieved early ball and powered his way over from less than 10 metres out to clinch his hat-trick with just over five minutes remaining.
