Hull FC will take on West Yorkshire rivals Leeds Rhinos at the 2021 Dacia Magic Weekend at Newcastle’s St James’ Park.
The Black & Whites will go up against the reigning Challenge Cup holders on Saturday 4th September, in the showpiece final fixture of the weekend’s first day of action – kick-off times will be announced in due course.
The annual Rugby League spectacular has been moved to the weekend of September 4th-5th from its usual May date to allow more chance for supporters to attend the event, with hopes further boosted by yesterday’s roadmap announcement by the government with fans expected to return to stadia in some capacity later in the Spring.
For those who have not requested a refund for their tickets for the cancelled 2020 event, their tickets will remain valid for the 2021 event, while additional tickets will go on sale in due course.
Having previously faced Hull KR, London, Huddersfield, Castleford and Saints during the event’s 13 year history, Richard Agar’s Leeds side will prove new and tough opposition for Brett Hodgson’s men who will be looking to continue their fine form at the North-East’s iconic venue having won three of their four clashes there.
Two of the sides that historically take the largest amount of fans to Rugby League’s annual festival weekend, the historic rivalry between Yorkshire’s two biggest sides is sure to be reignited when the sides go head to head on Tyneside.
Elsewhere, reigning Betfred Super League Champions St Helens will take on Catalans ahead of Hull’s clash, while Wigan and Warrington will meet up in Sunday’s headline clash.
Fixtures have been reformatted from those planned in 2020 to include newly promoted Leigh Centurions, while ensuring all teams play on the same day they were scheduled to play on last year, acknowledging those fans who have already purchased tickets; teams will play the side who finished closest to them in last season’s league table.
