The Hull FC Community Foundation’s ‘Empower’ project will continue throughout the third national lockdown, providing the city’s younger generation and more vulnerable residents with access to several physical and mental wellbeing support projects.

Through a variety of projects aimed at keeping participants fit and healthy over the challenging lockdown period, the Foundation coaches will be working hard throughout the coming weeks to continue to engage with people across the city, both young and old.

“We are massively aware of the impact that Covid-19 continues to have in Hull and the East Yorkshire areas and how many different groups of people are constantly being affected”, said Hull FC Foundation’s Head of Sport Health & Wellbeing, Richard Tate.

“Having spoken to many different people during the previous lockdown periods, including my own family & friends, we must recognise that feelings of loneliness and social isolation are still having a significant impact on the overall physical  health and mental wellbeing of lots of people.

“Our Empower project will continue to help support lots of different areas of the community and help play an important role in keeping young people active during this latest lockdown.

“We’re pleased to still be working hard to engage, educate & inspire; helping some of the city’s most vulnerable people.”

Starting on Monday 11th January for the remainder of the month, the club will be posting daily ‘Compete 4 Change’ Daily Challenge Cards on social media every morning, encouraging people young & old to keep active and eat healthily whilst in lockdown.

Inspired by members of the Hull FC squad themselves, the activities will include a one-minute fitness challenge every day, including activities such as star-jumps, staircase runs, squats, and target passing, all of which can be completed in the safety and comfort of your own home.

These will be combined with a healthy eating cooking recipe, featuring the likes of Taylor’s Tasty Omlette, Laney’s Lasagne, and Houghton’s Perfect Pancakes.

Meanwhile, the Community Foundation will continue to engage with all areas of the community throughout every weekday during lockdown, with a wide range of events and sessions taking place virtually, including online fitness sessions and boot-camps.

All sessions are free of charge to take part in, to ensure as many people as possible can make the most of the activities on offer.
