How the match unfolded…
Hull KR drew first blood in the game thanks to an early try from Harvey Livett. The former Warrington back-rower charged for the line and after a long video referee referral, the try was given with the forward seemingly touching down by the narrowest of margins. Brierley missed the kick.
Hull were soon ahead though, with Jake Connor earning FC’s first try of the game. Hitting a huge gap in the Rovers line as the hosts piled the pressure on, Connor easily had the pace to slide over. Sneyd converted.
Ratu Naulago made a try saving play for Hull on the 20 minute mark. Rovers put up a high bomb which seemingly fell into the grasp of Ben Crooks, but the Hull winger was there to steal the ball. He was forced into touch though, and Hull KR would score on the resulting set with Rovers sending the ball quickly to the left edge. Adam Quinlan was there to finish the move, ad Ellis converted.
In an end to end half though, Hull hit back in the final ten minutes before the break. On the night he made his 350th appearance for the club, Danny Houghton got on the end of a delightful Marc Sneyd grubber to touch down in goal. Sneyd’s conversion put Hull ahead.
Rovers thought they had the lead in the final second of the half after a breakaway play, but after a breakaway play it was deemed that the Robins had knocked on in the build-up.
Hull KR got the first try of the second-half. A downfield break from Rovers resulted in the ball being sent to the left, where Ben Crooks had the pace to finish in the corner. Ellis was on target with the kick.
But Hull hit back again. Attacking the left edge, a break from Griffin put FC in great attacking position, and the centre had he vision to feed the ball to Sneyd to score. He converted his own try to give Hull the lead.
FC extended their lead with just over a quarter of the game to play. Josh Griffin, after assisting the previous try, hit a huge gap in the Robins line to race over under the posts. Sneyd’s goal put FC 8 points ahead.
FC thought they had put the cherry on top when Andre Savelio went over in the final ten minutes, but was denied by the video referee.
