On the 27th October 1984, the Black & Whites came from 12-0 down to defeat Hull Kingston Rovers 29-12 at Boothferry Park and win their third consecutive Yorkshire Cup Final.

On the 36th anniversary of the victory, Club Historian Bill Dalton recalls the famous victory in West Hull.

What a great day this was. There were 25,243 at Boothferry Park.
Rovers went 12-0 in front on the half-hour mark and George Fairbairn failed to kick any conversions from the three tries.

Gary Schofield kicked a penalty 33 minutes in before Peter Sterling took control. He put in a grubber under the posts at Bunkers Hill end for Lee Crooks to touch down, so it was 8-12 at the break.

The second-half had hardly got under way when Norton and Crooks combined to put Hull in a good position, but the chance seemed lost when Harkin kicked dead from the kick on the last tackle.

Fairburn dropped out with a kick that soared over the halfway line. Gary Kemble fielded on the fly and after beating Watkinson, the field opened up
for him and he cut across and not a single Rovers hand was laid on him
as he scored wide out.

Schofield landed the touchline conversion and Hull were in front 14-12. He then dropped a goal in the 54th minute and then Kemble was again on hand to support Knocker Norton, who delayed his pass to perfection.

With 10 minutes remaining, Sterling and Fred Ah Kuoi combined to put Wayne Proctor clear, and he in turn, handed on to Knocker who touched down for probably the simplest Try of his career.

Schofield duly converted. Only a further minute elapsed before intercepted a David Hall pass and galloped a full 90 yards for a sensational ending to the game.

Hull had become only the second team to win the Yorkshire Cup three
seasons running.
