Following Danny Houghton’s addition to the Hull FC 350 club in March, hullfc.com looks back at some of the other plays to join the Black & White’s prestigious group.
Club Captain Houghton is no stranger to reaching a milestone, but his most recent landmark appearance put him into a category of only 19 Hull FC players.
The hooker made his 350th club appearance in March against Catalans Dragons at the KCOM Stadium, becoming only the 19th player to do so in a Black & White shirt.
Houghton made his Hull FC debut against Harlequins, now known as London Broncos, in 2007, with the Black & Whites emerging 20-8 winners at the KCOM Stadium.
The 29-year old has since gone on to make a number of memorable appearances including his performances in the 2016 and 2017 Challenge Cup Finals.
But Houghton is just one of 19 players to don the Hull FC shirt to surpass the 350 mark.
Edward ‘Ned’ Rogers’ career lasted a phenominal time-span of 19-years from 1906 to 1925, making a remarkable 500 appearances exactly, making him Hull FC’s highest-ever appearance maker.
He played at full-back or on the wing and featured in the three consecutive Challenge Cup Finals in 1908, 1909 and 1910. He also featured at full-back in the successful Championship Final against Hull KR in 1921.
One of the greatest Hull-born players to feature for the club is the redoubtable Johnny Whiteley, who played for the club from the latter end of 1950 until early 1965 and ended his playing days as player-coach and continued in the solo role until 1970, finishing on 418 appearances for his hometown club.
Whilst he captured the admiration of thousands of Hull supporters, he was also revered by rugby league supporters across the country, as he was only one of two players to feature in all three Great Britain World Cup squads in 1954, 1957 and 1960.
Mick Scott stands only second to Ned Rogers in the appearance charts. His tally is incredible when consideration is given to the fact that he was a prop forward for all but the first few months of his career.
At a time when an injury to a player was covered by his counterpart in the ‘A-team’, Mick’s understudy made just 12 appearances in 9 years in the first-team.
Despite his undoubted ability in the scrummages, helping Tommy Harris to dominate possession throughout his career in the hooking spot, and his fearsome reputation at loose-forward, he was denied test selection by the presence of the likes of Alan Prescott and Jack Wilkinson among others. However, Mick did represent England and Yorkshire on a number of occasions.
