CITY RIVALS SET FOR NOT SO FRIENDLY!

By James Clark | 11/09/2011
Hull’s rival Super League clubs will reacquaint themselves ahead of Super League XVII when they meet for a pre-season friendly in January.

Hull FC have confirmed that they will host their neighbours Hull KR on Sunday 22nd January at the KC Stadium, with both sides set to share the gate receipts of the match.

It continues the long standing rivalry between the clubs which sees the Black and Whites just narrowly in front on the all time head to head standings, having shared the spoils over the last couple of years.

Of the last seven meetings which have taken place in the last two years, FC have clinched four victories to KR’s three, although the Red and Whites are one up this season after two wins from the three meetings in 2011.

The most recent friendly match between the sides came in January 2010 when both club’s went head to head for Richard Horne’s Testimonial match, with FC claiming a 22-4 win.

Speaking about the fixture, Hull FC’s Chief Executive, James Rule, commented, “The prospect of starting the new season with another Hull derby is an exciting one and I am sure it is something that the fans of both clubs will eagerly look forward to over the next few months.

“The attendance of 17,000 people at Richard Horne’s Testimonial match shows how well received a fixture of this nature can be, regardless of whether it is a competitive or friendly match, whilst it will certainly be a good test for both sides ahead of starting their respective campaigns.”

Meanwhile, Hull KR’s Chief Executive, Mike Smith, also echoed those thoughts, adding, “There is no greater rivalry than Hull FC v Hull KR so it is a really exciting opportunity for both clubs to kick start their season in this way.

“Both club’s will be entering somewhat of a new era next season under new head coaches and with a number of new signings and there is probably no better way than derby for each side to hit the ground running.”

Full details regarding the ticket prices, sale dates and kick off time will be released later this year.
