Hullfc.com caught up with CRK Engineering Managing Director Craig Kemp to discuss the company’s commercial partnership with the Black & Whites.
Hi Craig, could you tell us how you got involved with Hull FC commercially?
I’ve been a lifelong fan of Hull FC. Once I set up a business, it was always my ambition to get onto the Hull FC shirt one day. We’ve been in business now for about eight or nine years now, so we have finally got ourselves in a financial position to offer some support to the club.
Talk us through the balance between showing your support for the club, whilst also getting a level of exposure for CRK Engineering.
Personally, I’ve done it out of my support of Hull FC. My primary aim wasn’t to make any financial returns on the sponsorship, or get any extra publicity. I’ve simply done it because I love Hull FC.
If anything business-related comes as a result of sponsoring the club and being on the shirt, then that’s an added bonus for me.
But I really have to pay a lot of thanks to my mum, Tracy Kemp. She’s the Financial Director at the company, and without her help, CRK Engineering certainly wouldn’t be where it is now. She has played a big part in helping the company get onto the front of the shirt.
Can you explain a little bit about CRK Engineering as a company and what you do?
Like I said earlier, the company was set up about nine or eight years ago in my dad’s garage at home! We’ve moved facilities and offices about five times, and then we moved into the 10,00 square factory that we’re currently in.
We do all aspects of engineering; mechanical work, fabrication, site-installation, steelworks. Basically, anything out of metal is what we manufacture at our factory.
Whether it’s for the food industry, pharmaceutical, construction, we cover all areas of work really.
And what’s your role at the company, Craig?
I’m the Managing Director of CRK Engineering, so I look after all of the big projects. We’ve got a team in the office who look after all of the day-to-day running, but it’s when new construction sites need staircases and steelworks that I will go in and get everything priced up and signed off.
