Ladies Thrash Oulton In Fun Day Opener

A resolute and clinical performance helped Hull FC Ladies onto a comfortable win over Oulton Raidettes.

Hull FC Ladies put on a show to a big crowd in the first game of Hull FC’s annual Family Fun Day at Brantingham Park, securing a comprehensive 56-6 victory over Oulton Raidettes.

A second half onslaught saw had an avalanche effect on the scoreline, with Danielle Waters and Leanne Baggley scoring braces.

The Match

After a stop-start first five minutes, FC showed patience to strike for the first try of the game. Thomas raced away down the right flank from halfway, brushed aside the Oulton fullback and opened the scoring. Baggley converted to make it 6-0.

Looking to strengthen their hand, the Black & Whites continued to build pressure. With a set on the Oulton try line, Hull FC shifted the ball to the left edge, where Natasha Wood darted over from close range. Baggley missed the conversion.

The Raidettes collected the ball from the restart and a couple of plays later, Frankie Townend weaved her way over the whitewash from dummy-half. She converted her own try.

However, in a frantic spell, Hull FC re-asserted their dominance. After Baggley went close from 20 metres out, Julie Wilson dotted down from the resulting play-the-ball, barely a metre out from the Oulton try line. Baggley converted to put Hull ten points in front.

With Frankie Townend in the sin-bin for dissent, the Black & Whites capitalised on the numerical advantage. Forward Davinia Richardson broke through from 30 metres out and showed enough pace to score underneath the sticks. Baggley converted with ease.

It was service resumed straight after half-time, as just three minutes into the second half Leanne Baggley danced her way over the line from 20 metres out. Romano converted from in front.

Baggley claimed her second try of the game just over ten minutes later. On play one of Hull’s scrum from 35 metres out, the fullback arched her run from left to right and scored a brilliant try for the Black & Whites. Thomas converted.

Another three great tries followed for the Airlie Birds, when Waters bagged a brace in the space of five minutes, and Lauren Sutton dived over from dummy half from close range.

Molly Bigby put the icing on the cake for the Airlie Birds, who took advantage of a huge overlap on the right edge.
