Match Report: Hull FC 2- 55 Huddersfield Giants

The Black & Whites had a Dacia Magic Weekend to forget going down 2-55 to Huddersfield Giants at Anfield.

The Giants bagged ten tries in a disappointing effort from Lee Radford’s men, whose only points in the game came through a Marc Sneyd penalty conversion.

Adam O’Brien, Darnell McIntosh and Jermaine McGillvary all bagged braces in the match.

Team News

Hull welcomed back long-term absentee Josh Bowden after over a year out of first-team action - the prop started on the bench.

Danny Washbrook remained at hooker with Danny Houghton sidelined with a calf injury. However Hull were boosted by the return of Sika Manu who came onto the bench.

FC remained without first-team stars Bureta Faraimo, Carlos Tuimavave, Gareth Ellis, Jordan Lane, Jack Logan, Andre Savelio, Matty Dawson-Jones and Jack Sanderson.

The Match

Huddersfield got the first try of the game courtesy of Joe Wardle. A delicate kick over the top into the in-goal area from Oliver Russell bounced harshly for Jamie Shaul, and Wardle was there to clean up and touch down.

The Black & Whites went further behind within the opening quarter of the game, with Jake Wardle extending the lead for the Giants. Shifting the ball out to the left edge, Naulago was caught off-guard on his wing with Senior able to get the ball inside to his centre to score.

Matters got worse for Hull as Adam O’Brien scooted over from dummy-half with ten minutes remaining in the half to score under the sticks.

And Simon Woolford’s men had their fourth score of the game before the break - Huddersfield once again had numbers on the left edge and Darnell McIntosh was there to score.

Oliver Russell added a drop-goal before the half-time hooter, but Hull did manage to get points on the board before the break with Marc Sneyd slotting over a penalty in the final seconds.

HALF-TIME: Hull FC 2-21 Huddersfield Giants

O’Brien made it a brace of tries after the restart with a replica of his first score of the afternoon, scooting over from dummy-half.

McIntosh also claimed a double touching down in front of the Kop mid-way through the second-half, while Alex Mellor also got his name on the score-sheet with some poor defending from the Airlie Birds costing another score.

Jermaine McGillvary scored Huddersfield’s eighth score of the game, finishing off a quick move down the right edge, before Aaron Murphy bagged another from a Kieran Buchanan mistake.

McGillvary also bagged a brace in the final seconds.
