For this week’s Sponsor in Focus, hullfc.com caught up with Carol Bilton, mother of Martin and Daniel Geddes, sponsors of Jamie Shaul, to discuss their relationship with the club.
“The Geddes Boys” is a name that most Hull FC supporters will recognise having been associated with the club for a number of years.
Carol Bilton, a Black & Whites supporter of over 20 years, is one of the club’s current player sponsors, allowing the names of her sons Martin and Daniel to be associated with the Black & Whites.
“The Geddes Boys” are currently the player sponsor of Jamie Shaul, and have been sponsors of several other players over the last decade.
Speaking to hullfc.com on how they first became involved with the club, Carol said: “My two lads, Daniel and Martin, love Rugby League. Unfortunately, they can’t learn anything, but they know a lot about the sport. We decided to sponsor Kirk Yeaman when he became available to show the boys another aspect of the club.
“I’ve been supporting the club since I was about 20, when we moved to the KCOM Stadium. I’d been a follower since before then but that’s when my interest really started.
“They’ve grown up in a Hull FC orientated family. It’s honestly amazing how much they know about the club, despite being unable to read and write because of their condition.”
The family are also box holders with the Black & Whites at the KCOM Stadium, watching matches from their beloved Box 19.
And the boys have had their names associated with some top players over the last few years.
Carol added: “We sponsored Kirk Yeaman for for four or five years before he retired. It was by chance that he was the player that became available but we loved it because he was Hull born and bred.
“It’s been really great for us to get to know him and his family and fortunately I still see him and his wife now. So that’s been great.
“We now sponsor Jamie Shaul. We also sponsored Gareth Ellis from 2013 until his retirement in 2017, and Josh Griffin for two years also.
“When the boys know that their player has gone over for a try, they are thrilled and have a smile from one ear to the other. They are really proud of being associated with Jamie.”
