The Black & Whites’ elder statesman has served his hometown club for ten years, as well as spending four years with Trinity.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Washbrook told hullfc.com: “Every player who earns a testimonial looks forward to the game the most out of all of the events, because we’re all rugby players at the end of the day, so the game is the most important one.”

“It’s a privilege to be granted a testimonial and I really appreciate the help the two clubs have given me to organise the game,” he added.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Wakefield and putting the game on with Danny [Kirmond]. Hopefully plenty of people turn up and enjoy the day.”

The veteran has already hosted a number of events around his testimonial, including the official launch dinner and an England-themed Q&A.

There’s plenty more booked in the diary for 2019, however, as Washbrook teases what supporters can expect in his testimonial year.

“We’ve got the usual stuff that people enjoy; ladies nights, golf days, family days. There might be a few other things in there as well,” Washbrook said.

“Danny Houghton has given me a few tips on what went well and what didn’t go so well in his testimonial year - it’s been good to pick his brains about what to do.

“We certainly have a few ideas for the year ahead that we think will go well and I’m really excited to share more details with the fans soon.”
