Connor Ambitious Ahead of 2019

After returning to pre-season training earlier than scheduled, Jake Connor is feeling ambitious ahead of the 2019 season.

After returning to pre-season training earlier than scheduled on Monday morning, England international Jake Connor is feeling ambitious ahead of the 2019 campaign.

His international exploits in the Baskerville Shield series against New Zealand impressed many, with Connor grabbing two tries and several assists.

But back with his club a week earlier than schedule, Connor told hullfc.com that the Black & Whites have a squad more than capable of challenging for more silverware next season.

“I’ve got every faith in this team. We have got an outstanding squad and pre-season will only help us gel even more. I’m sure we’re going to have a massive dig in 2019 and we’re all going to be aiming to play in that Grand Final,” Connor said.

“I’ve not really been up to much for the last two weeks. I’ve just moved house but that took a lot quicker than I expected - boredom has got the better of me over the last two weeks - so I thought I’d come in a little bit earlier.

“It’s been pretty tough so far but I think I’ve already acclimatised to the intensity because I haven’t had a lot of time off really. The body is feeling sore but that’s just part and parcel of pre-season, I suppose.”

Hoping to continue his form from his international appearances during the off-season, Connor will also be looking to pick up from some impressive performances for the Black & Whites last season, despite suffering from injury throughout 2018.

The utility man is preparing for his third season at the KCOM Stadium, and he explained how he is still developing as a player at 24-years old.

“The series [for England against New Zealand] was one of the best experiences of my rugby career and I learned a lot from that,” he told hullfc.com.

“Those sort of things only make you hungrier to be more successful and there’s nothing I want more than to win the Grand Final with Hull FC this season.

“I know that I’ve got to earn my keep at international level, so that means I’ll be putting 100% effort in every single week and hopefully that can help us win more silverware this season.”
