WATTS SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION AT THE CLUB

By Tom Stewart | 30/07/2014

Hull FC prop Liam Watts has extended his stay with the club for a further three years, after agreeing a new deal until the end of 2018.

Since switching his city allegiances from Hull KR in 2012, the 24-year has developed into a fearsome and hard running prop forward, becoming one of Lee Radford’s most consistent first team players.

Watts has appeared in the Super League 47 times for the Black and Whites, competing for a spot this year alongside the likes of Chris Green, Josh Bowden, Mickey Paea and Feka Paleaaesina.

Scoring twice this year, including his effort against Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium two weeks ago, as well as four try assists, Watts has shown he has creative abilities to accompany the physical side to his game which has seen make over 400 tackles and 1288 metres this season.

His efforts have earned him a further three years at the club, and the young prop forward is delighted to have been able to secure his future with the Airlie Birds.

He said: “I am over the moon to be able to sign a new contract at the club, I was obviously looking to tie down my future down and I’m really glad that it’s going to be here.

“I want to be a part of what is going to be happening over the next couple of years at the club. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in there with the lads for the rest of the year and finishing on a high note.

“We have got something good growing here with a solid group of lads, and it is also clear to see the intent we have next year with the signings of Leon Pryce and Marc Sneyd so I feel we are moving in the right direction.”

Watts added, “Hull is a great city for rugby league and I am so pleased to be able to secure my future here.

“To have been given the opportunity to come to Hull in the first place, which is obviously a massive club with big aspirations was extremely pleasing, and when I first signed I was keen to be a part of those long term goals.

“We have a young squad here and I now look forward to helping the club achieve those targets.”
