Hull FC have added further depth to their squad for the 2014 season with the acquisition of experienced Super League winger Liam Colbon on a one-year deal.

The former Wigan, Hull KR and London player becomes the club’s ninth new addition for the campaign and linked up with his new teammates for the first time yesterday.

Plying his trade with the Broncos last season, the 29-year-old was eager to explore options away from the capital and says he will relish his opportunity with the Black and Whites.

Speaking to, he said, “All the adversity I faced at London last year and the uncertainty of having a job really put things into perspective. I've had to do an internship and look at coaching as I wasn't sure if I'd find another club at this stage of the year, but this offer from Hull came out of the blue and I'm really excited.

"I've been doing a lot of fitness training on my own and I'm just really looking forward to getting back into a team environment. First and foremost, I want to come in and gain the respect of my teammates and then the coaching staff, but I know competition for places will be tough.

"Tom (Lineham) had an exceptional year last year and was unlucky to miss the England squad really late on through injury. Fetuli (Talanoa) is in a similar situation to me with having a point to prove coming back after a year out playing rugby union.

"As long as the team is winning and playing well, hopefully the three of us can push on and get the best out of each other.

"I just want to come in, work hard and get the respect of everybody here. Hopefully I'll get an opportunity and when I do, I want to take it with both hands."

A graduate of Wigan’s highly rated academy set-up after plying his trade with Orrell as an amateur, Colbon has made 132 top flight appearances since his first team debut for the Warriors in 2004, scoring 45 tries.

Standing 6ft 2in and weighing 100kg, he is comfortable on either the right or left flank and brings additional competition for places to the Hull back division.

Head coach Lee Radford said, “Liam will offer us cover and depth on the wing with Jason Crookes injured and the situation with Tom Biggs still ongoing.

"I played against him on a number of occasions and he was a real handful to tackle. He brings plenty of grunt and intensity out of back field, which is what we're after, and he adds to what both Tom [Lineham] and Fetuli [Talanoa] bring to the team. It's healthy competition in there for us."

He added, "He is coming for the right reasons and wants to get his career back on track. He's weighed up his options after leaving London and wants to come here to prove himself and that's what we want in players.

"He was named Players' Player of the Year for the last two seasons at London, which sits very well with us, as it is good to know his peers held him in such high regard and recognised his efforts week in, week out. That is what we hope he'll bring to our squad."
